Cedar shake roofs are iconic in older DuPage County neighborhoods, and this Downers Grove homeowner wasn't willing to give up the natural beauty for conventional asphalt. The original 25-year-old cedar was splitting, curling, and had moss growth on the north-facing slope. We installed premium Western Red Cedar shakes with fire-retardant treatment — a requirement in many Illinois municipalities. Each shake was hand-selected and the installation follows strict spacing guidelines for proper ventilation and drainage.
